A Powerful Self-Awareness Method for Women – Interview with Alkotó Anyu

A Powerful Self-Awareness Method: Art-Based Coaching!

Every woman may experience shorter or longer periods in her life when her daily life is overshadowed by a lack of confidence and the pressure to meet expectations in a fast-paced world. We all long for a happy, stress-free life, and with this in mind, I spoke with Timi Takács, Women’s Mentor and Creative Coach.

As a women’s mentor, what is your role and how did you start helping other women?

The role of a women’s mentor stems from my own femininity. I feel that, as a woman, I can connect deeply with other women, empathise with their situations, and guide them through difficulties based on my own experiences. This allows me to help women find their own inner balance. My mission is to lead women to discover their inner equilibrium through creative art-based coaching. The work is multifaceted: during sessions, we discuss issues such as lack of confidence, carving out personal time, balancing family and work, the shaping influence of our environment, and many other topics that impact our lives. Art, particularly painting, accompanies this process. Creating art has numerous positive effects—from experiencing flow, building confidence, developing patience, to enjoying the creative experience. This is how I developed the Takács Art-Based Coaching© method, which is realised under the Alkotó Anyu brand and has already supported many women.

Where do self-awareness and creativity meet?

Art is a wonderful tool for exploring our own life situations. Working with the picture cards I specifically designed for this purpose allows participants to take steps on their self-awareness journey through associations. The two intersect in that images, art, and the creative process take us much deeper than working only with solution-focused questions. Art-based tools affect the subconscious, bringing to the surface feelings, thoughts, and experiences that help find answers. Everyone arrives at a session with one or more challenges or tasks to resolve, and these tools help uncover their root causes.

I’ve encountered your workshops several times. What are they about and how should we imagine them?

I run self-awareness sessions, each focusing on a particular theme. For example, we recently explored the connection between self-awareness and creativity. Other themes I’ve worked on include femininity, burnout, shame, and supporting mothers returning to work.

Another branch of workshops is specifically designed for helping professionals—psychologists, coaches, trainers, kinesiologists, somatic drama practitioners, or family constellators. Here, I focus on the use of my hand-painted, association-based creative picture card decks—Színes Hangulatok and Színes Érzések—and the methodology I use in my practice. I provide not only theoretical knowledge but also practical experience: participants work on their own challenges through the exercises during the sessions.

The primary platform for these workshops is online, although recently I’ve begun offering in-person workshops. For example, at the end of September, I worked with eight psychologists at a family support service, and in mid-October with sixteen participants from a grief support group. Upon a colleague’s invitation, I led them through exercises to strengthen their confidence, plan their future goals, and work towards achieving them. In the future, I aim to increasingly include personal, face-to-face connections.

Who can you help most effectively?

I can most effectively help those who are open to experiencing a unique and powerful self-awareness method and are willing to embark on a sometimes challenging, energy- and time-intensive—but wonderfully rewarding—journey of self-discovery. Primarily women and mothers, as well as colleagues in the helping professions. Feedback confirms that the methodology I use enhances and enriches collaborative work with clients. Current workshops are always available on Facebook and my website. I welcome everyone who is open to working with creative tools and finding answers through them.
