At first glance, this painting tells a quiet, gentle moment, but in truth it carries an entire childhood within it.
Not just a vase of flowers, but a memory. A scent. An embrace. A homecoming.
For me, this flower has always symbolised Mother’s Day. The May sunshine, the smell of freshly washed clothes in the breeze, and that special, festive excitement of being a child bringing a hand-drawn gift to my mother and my grandmothers.
And it especially reminds me of my maternal grandmother.
Huge lilac bushes grew in her garden — real, sprawling, fragrant giants. When they were in bloom, the whole yard was wrapped in a cloud of purple and pink. As a child, I could barely see over them. I remember burying my face in the blossoms and breathing in their scent, as if I wanted to store it away forever.
That is where I learnt what the safety of home feels like.
That is where I learnt the quiet, natural love of maternal care.
This painting was born from that feeling.
Not a perfectly composed bouquet, but a soft, dreamlike vision, as if we were looking through the haze of a memory. The colours blur, the shapes are gentle, like when I think back to springs long past.
This painting brings an intimate moment into the space.
A little slowing down.
A deep breath.
A feeling of “it’s good to be here”.
It belongs in homes where stories matter, where the walls hold not only pictures, but memories as well.
